Loving ourselves should be simple, right? Yet, in a world where we’re always comparing ourselves to others, it can feel like an uphill battle. Let’s start embracing Self-Love in 7 spiritual lessons for a fulfilling journey.
As a member of the LDS church, I’ve come to understand that before coming to this earth, we made a choice. We chose to embark on this journey with full knowledge of the challenges we’d face. The suffering, the encounters, and even our appearance.
Despite knowing all this, we still chose to embrace life’s trials. I firmly believe that each of us has a divine purpose, and our trials play a vital role in fulfilling it.
Through my own experiences, I discovered my purpose early on – to understand my self-worth and to love myself as I am, while helping others do the same. No longer do I feel the need to compete. Yes, there will always be someone seemingly better, but comparing ourselves only leads to self-doubt.
We must stop measuring our worth against others and instead focus on our journey. Every trial, and every experience, brings us closer to understanding our purpose. Sometimes, we need to pause and ask ourselves: What am I meant to learn from this? How can I grow from this experience?
Here are 7 lessons I’ve learned along this journey:
- Purpose in Trials: Every trial we face serves a purpose, guiding us closer to understanding our mission in life.
- Embrace Self-Worth: Recognize your inherent value and worth, independent of external comparisons or societal standards.
- Love Yourself: Practice self-love and acceptance, affirming your worthiness of love and kindness.
- Release Comparison: Let go of the need to compare yourself to others, as it only leads to self-doubt and dissatisfaction.
- Divine Knowledge: Trust in the divine wisdom that led you to choose this earthly journey, knowing that you have the strength to overcome any challenge.
- Seek Guidance: Pause and reflect on the lessons each experience brings, seeking guidance on how to grow and fulfill your purpose.
- Transformative Love: Discover the transformative power of self-love, not only in your relationship with yourself but also in your connections with others.
We knew the challenges we’d face, yet we chose to be here – because we knew we were capable, and because we knew it would be worth it. Love yourself for who you are, for you were loved even before you came to this earth.
I’ll admit, that I used to be guilty of constantly comparing myself to others, but I realized that every time I did, I was rejecting myself from love. It wasn’t easy, but I started affirming my love for myself, even if it felt awkward at first. Gradually, I began to see the difference it made in my relationships – a deeper connection, a greater appreciation.
Embracing self-love is a journey worth embarking on
By recognizing our purpose, avoiding comparison, and practicing unconditional self-love, we can unlock the true beauty within ourselves and foster deeper connections with those around us.
As you reflect on this journey, I encourage you to ponder this: What steps can you take today to love yourself more fully? How can you incorporate self-affirmation and appreciation into your daily routine?

Such a great post. I didn’t realize that the LDS felt that way about life. Very nice view. I need to buy myself a big mirror for affirmations. Keep up the work!
