We all have books, stories and songs that we grew up on. One of my all time favorite book is Where The Sidewalk Ends . I remember checking out the book from the library, reading it over and over, returning it and re-checking the book out again. Now I’m wondering how many times the book actually made it onto the school library shelf during the school year.
I love sharing the books that I read as a kid with my own children. For one reason or another, I haven’t read Where The Sidewalk Ends in years. Then, this week my husband comes home from work and says, “I had to stop at the store to get some stuff that I needed for work and I found something that you will like a lot.” My first thought was, “Yay! He found a really cool little Buddha for me!”
Then he takes the bag in his hand and takes out this book. I am still so ecstatic of finally having a copy in my home. Of course I wasn’t going to wait to begin reading this book and as I was reading through the poems, I came across a poem that made me smile, I stopped reading and I began writing. As you can tell from most of my writing, I strive for peace in my life and it brings me much peace and happiness to share this simple, but awesome poem with you;
Hug O’ War
I will not play at tug o’ war
I’d rather play hug o’ warWhere everyone hugsInstead of tugsWhere everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,Where everyone kisses,And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles,And everyone wins.
As we become adults, we see and can appreciate the things we thought to be just fun when we were kids. After reading this poem, I literally stopped what I was doing and just had to share it with you. I hope that this a poem you can enjoy and that you can share with the kids in your life.
What are some of the things that this poem inspires you to do? What are some of the books that you read as a kid and can appreciate more now as an adult? What are some the books that you love to share with your kids?
I look forward to reading in the comments below of the books that you enjoyed as a child.
Love, Peace & Joy
I love, love, love these books SO much.
